OPEN DAYS

8 JUNE, 13 JULY, 10 AUGUST & 14 SEPTEMBER 2019

The new Christian Science church building in Ockford Road (GU7 1QY) will be open for tours on Saturdays 13 July and 10 August, to coincide with the Godalming history walks. Short tours of the building, including our lovely upstairs worship space, can be taken at any time between 2pm and 5pm. If you are going on a history walk you may like to pop into the church beforehand or afterwards. There will be a display of photographs showing various stages of the construction and fit-out of the building; a book of photographs of the old church; and the framed plans of the old church by architect Paul Phipps. (We will also be open on 8 June, and on Heritage Open Day, Saturday 14 September, from 10am to 4pm.) There is limited free parking next to the church (through the gateway which also leads to Caesars Place), and several town car parks are close by.

The lecture was given in the Christian Science Reading Room at 6 Ockford Road, Godalming, on Sunday 10th February 2019. Light refreshments were served from 2pm onwards and we were delighted to welcome friends and neighbours who came to look round the new church building. Most of them also stayed to hear the lecture.

Mark McCurties spoke for an hour on the subject of Christian healing. He gave examples of healings from the Bible and explained the Christian Science viewpoint that the healings performed by Jesus Christ were based on an eternal principle, the ever-present love of God, which is still operative today. Mark reminded us that the word “repent” means “change the way you think”. He recounted experiences of his own which show that being willing to see oneself and others as children of God brings healing and change for the better in all areas of life.

Mark is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. A former athletics coach, he has been a Christian Science practitioner since 2010 and lectures around the world on Christian Science.
